What is a comprehensive eye exam?

A comprehensive eye exam is a complete evaluation of your eye and vision health. It includes several vision measurements to determine how well you see objects that are near and far, and your depth of field. It may also include a dilated exam that enables Dr. Siri to see inside your eye in order to check the health of your eyes for signs of eye diseases and other systemic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, brain tumors, autoimmune diseases and other cancers.

How often should I have a comprehensive eye exam?

The AOA (American Optometric Association) recommends comprehensive eye examinations every 1-3 years based on age and medical history. Children's first eye exam should be by six months in order to identify vision problems that could eventually decrease vision and/ or function. Next, they should be seen by age three and before first grade in order to ensure they have the best functional vision for learning and interaction. All contact lens wearers should have an eye exam yearly or as indicated by their doctor. 

With the increase in screen time by patients of all ages, Dr. Siri offers comprehensive computer vision services in order to help patients of all ages successfully deal with the symptoms of CVS.​

What is computer vision syndrome?

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), "CVS, also referred to as digital eye strain, describes a group of eye- and vision-related problems that result from prolonged computer, tablet, e-reader and cell phone use."​

According to the AOA,

The most common symptoms associated with CVS or digital eyestrain are:

• Eyestrain.

• Headaches.

• Blurred vision.

• Dry eyes.

• Neck and shoulder pain.

These symptoms may be caused by:

• Poor lighting.

• prolonged screen time.

• Glare on a digital screen.

• Improper viewing distances.

• Poor seating posture.

• Uncorrected vision problems.

Who can wear contact lenses?

Patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia (vision problems that occur with age) and eye conditions like keratoconus can wear contact lenses. Dr. Siri leaves it to the discretion of every parent for their children to be fitted in contact lenses. Parents must take into consideration the importance of sanitation and responsibility. 

I need reading glasses to see things up close; can I wear contact lenses?

YES! Ask Dr. Siri how you can see at far away and up-close at the same time with contact lenses in.

Are contact lenses safe for my eyes?

YES! As long as your contact lenses were fit and prescribed by a Dr. Ask Dr. Siri about hard contact lenses that can slow down the progression of myopia, or nearsightedness especially in children. Ask Dr. Siri today about your options for optimal vision and comfort.

What will happen if I sleep in my contact lenses?

Dr. Siri would never recommend that you to sleep in your contact lenses due to the fact that the risks outweigh the benefits. Nonetheless, some contact lenses are FDA approved for overnight wear. Ask Dr. Siri about them.

What is Blepharitis?

Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelids. The lids may appear red, swollen, itchy or feel like they are burning or sore.

You may have flakes or oily particles (crusts) wrapped at the base of your eyelashes too. It is common, especially among people who have oily skin, dandruff or rosacea.​

What is demodex?

Eyelid mites that lead to lids that are red, swollen, itchy or feel like they are burning or sore.​

What is LASIK surgery?​

LASIK is Laser-assisted in situ Keratomilieusis. During the procedure, the cornea (front part of the eye) is reshaped to focus light properly in the eye for clear vision without spectacles and/or contact lenses. Lasik has a 96 percent success rate. ​

Who should consider LASIK surgery?

Dr. Siri recommends that anyone with astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia and/ or presbyopia can have lasik. Nonetheless, Dr. Siri and the surgeon will perform other tests to ensure that you are a good candidate. During lasik, there is a risk of vision loss, dry eye, halo vision, infection, and/or a slipped flap.​

What is the consultation process work?

Dr. Siri will perform a comprehensive eye exam and help you select the right board certified lasik surgeon. Dr. Siri will then co-manage your surgery with the surgeon.​

Do I need routine yearly examinations after lasik?

YES! Dr. Siri highly recommends that all lasik patients still get a comprehensive annual exam. Most lasik centers offer lifetime warranties with required yearly eye examinations.
