DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT

SPEC is a preferred referral eye care practice for most practitioners in Dorchester county and beyond. Due to our thorough comprehensive eye examinations, we're always uncovering life changing ocular diagnosis that are directly or indirectly related to the system. We refer to the best "Retina Specialist" group on the Eastern shore as needed.
Glaucoma
At SPEC, we diagnose and manage various types of glaucoma. We use state of the art equipment during the process including a Virtual Reality Visual Field device.

Diabetic Eye Exam

The AOA recommends yearly dilated eye exams to rule out diabetic eye disease which if left untreated can lead to permanent vision loss.

At SPEC, we dilate and photo record all retinal evaluations.

We send personalized "Diabetic eye examination" letters to your PCP/ Endocrinologist​

Macular Degeneration (Dry and Wet)

We diagnose, monitor and manage with specialized vitamins

Medication Monitoring Exams

Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine): Rheumatologists are required to refer their patients for a baseline eye exam including visual field and Macular OCT before commencing treatment and yearly to monitor for maculopathy from the medication.

GLP-1 Medications: We recommend a baseline ocular examination before starting any GLP-1 treatment protocols due to NAION which can lead to permanent vision loss if not diagnosed on time.

Ocular Urgencies and Emergencies [NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED - Dr. Siri available on call after hours and weekends]
At SPEC, you do not have to make an appointment. The ocular conditions we diagnose and manage.

Sudden vision loss with or without pain: This could be as a result of multiple conditions. Therefore new, existing, acute, chronic vision loss with or without pain must be examined ASAP to avoid permanent vision loss.

Eye Pain: It can be as a result of a simple diagnosis as a foreign body or a life threatening condition like Giant Cell Arthritis or angle closure glaucoma.

Floaters/ Flashes: Floaters can be isolated from flashes of light. Nonetheless, both should be investigated with a thorough dilated eye examination.

Corneal Abrasions

Corneal Ulcers: If left untreated can lead to permanent corneal scarring and blurry vision

Foreign body: Dr. Siri is trained and experienced in removing various types of foreign bodies from the eye inclduing metal.

Eye infections: Dr. Siri is experienced in diagnosing and treating viral, bacterial and fungal ocular infections including but not limited to shingles

Swollen eye lids: This can be as basic as a stye or as complicated and life threatening as orbital cellulitis​
